Lapointe Celebrates National Hat Day

Overview: January 15th was National Hat Day in the United States. Here at Lapointe, we celebrated by creating a fun video and by giving our followers a chance to get their own Lapointe Insurance hat.

In early 2020, Lapointe Insurance ordered a bunch of branded hats. Our hope was that we could offer these hats to our clients and referral partners when they walked through our doors.
But then the pandemic hit, squashing that possibility.
Worried that the hats would sit around collecting dust, Bill Lapointe, the president of Lapointe Insurance, posed a challenge to John Lapointe and Rick Lima.
“January 15th is National Hat Day,” Bill said, “I want you to do a video on Hat Day.”
At first, John and Rick were stumped. “I’ve never even heard of National Hat Day,” Rick Lima explained. To this, John added, “I’m still not convinced it’s a real thing.”
While brainstorming video ideas, John and Rick kept circling back to one hilarious skit. “Hat Duel,” a skit produced by the comedy duo Key and Peele, follows two friends who try to upstage the other by wearing increasingly ridiculous hats. “When I first saw that skit, I was like, this is definitely what we’ve got to do,” said John.
But creating the skit presented a unique challenge. As John explained, “With a lot of our fun videos we’ve done in the past, we weren’t really acting. For Hat Day, I felt like we had to do some acting, and I had zero experience with that.”
For Rick, this was his favorite part. “We were trying to keep the parts that we would laugh at while watching that skit. For me that was the best part, like when we meet up for a hug and I’m just staring at John’s hat.”
In making this fun hat day video, we at Lapointe Insurance acknowledge that it’s been a challenging year for everyone. As Rick Lima put it, “Just having 2 minutes to take your mind off of everything is pretty cool. We wanted to do that for our clients.”
